10, 1941 Dear Ned, Our written exams are Mon. & Tues. July 14, 15 with flight test on Sat. 19th. The tests will tell whether or not I will have time for a visit this month. The course at Trenton starts the 28th, but if I have to rewrite any tests, that time will be lost. I have an oportunity to enter the services school after Trenton is over. This would probably be a quicker means to commission. Flew over Lake Champlain the other day as far as Burlington, Vermont. The fellow from Boston who trained at Pensacola in the Navy, has fallen in love with a Montreal girl (Greek decent) very pretty & wants to get married, but is engaged to another in Boston. Greek girl won't marry until he has a commission in R.C.A.F. Gus |

18, 1941 Curtis-Reid Dear Ned, Got the results of exams the other day, I busted two, meteorology and Airmanship so I have to rewrite them on Monday & Tuesday. So Tues. night Johnson & a couple of us & the Chief Flying Instructor went to a party and got "stinko." It lasted over the next day, since we had 80 oz. of Jamaica Rum, Johnson missed his train for Toronto as he was enlisted on Tuesday. I typed an excuse for him, had the Chief Flying Instructor sign it along with Flying Officer McCrea. Saw Johnson off to the train on Wed. night then started to get sober. Gus |
