Dobbs Ferry Seaplane Base enjoyed wide support in its endeavor's to promote Aviation
training and Sport Flying but the organization was up against strong opposition to its
operations from local residents citing noise, buzzing aircraft and its planned expansion
of the base hanger to accommodate up to ten aircraft for the anticipated CAA contract to
train Government Pilots. The Dobbs Ferry Board of Trustees introduced new zoning
ordinances in an effort to halt its expansion there was much heated debate on both sides
of the issues, but in the end George Helwig, President of the Club and the rest of its
Management decided not to move forward on its expansion plan due to other operational reasons, this decision was reported Aug. 2, 1940. News clippings below.
