There
was bad news as well; The dark clouds of war hanging over Europe Poland already has fallen to Nazi Germany, Britain and France both declar- ing war on Germany in Sept. of 1939! Oh how could there be another war we just ended the war to end all wars in 1918 thought my Father His Family and everyone else, its so peaceful here why think about it. In the Spring of 1940 the Dobbs Ferry Seaplane Base was busy giving sightseeing hops, instruction,etc. Lt. Robert Tinay, USN. was appointed Chief Flying Instructor, and from the previous year, Mackay Holmes, of Yonkers, NY, Flight Instructor; William Kinser, Flight Instructor. |

The
above were taken in the Summer of 1939. By 1940 my Father was Part Owner and Charter Member of the Westchester Private Fliers, Inc. The Club is considering a contract from the CAA to train Government sponsered Cadets to qualified pilots. The Yacht at anchor at the Base was owned by the Gentleman Farmer of Dobbs Ferry who hauled fresh vegtables daily to the 1939 World's Fair at Flushing Meadow, NY |
