By the end of July 1940 Olivier and Leigh were on there way back to Hollywood to star in a film called
"That Hamilton Woman" Olivier as Lord Nelson, Leigh as Lady Hamilton; This film helped to stabilize
their finances as they lost all of their accumulated earnings from the films, Gone with the wind, Rebecca, Wuthering Heights, and Pride and prejudice in the failed stage play Romeo & Juliet which
they produced, financed, and starred with a loss of 96,000 dollars a huge some of money in 1940.
Back in Hollywood Olivier resumed his flying in order to accumulate enough hours to qualify as an
Instructor before joining the Royal Air Force. By December the couple had returned to New York in preparation for there return to England. They boarded the steamer Excambian on December 27 for
Lisbon, then onto England for a seven hour flight over the same route that Vivien Leigh's Co-star in
Gone with the wind--"Leslie Howard" was killed three years later in 1943 when Howard's aircraft
was shot down by a German fighter.
