In early May Olivier and Leigh
at the invitation of Katharine
Cornell took up residence at her
home at Sneden's Landing on
the Hudson River during there
short but disasterous run of the
stage play Romeo & Juliet. At
this time Olivier started flying
at Dobbs Ferry to qualify for a
Pilot's License, Vivien Leigh
was taking lessons as well.
their instructors were Robert
Tinay, and Mackay Holmes. On
July 22, 1940 Olivier took his
Private Pilots test and past.
Others to pass the license test
were: August W Rabe of Yonkers, Dr. Leo Donaldson and Willard Helwig, both of
Tarrytown; Patrick Preston of
New York City and William
Proudfoot of Irvington.
